“Art that moves” is on display at the Kenai Art Center this month, in the first show of the center’s 2025 exhibition schedule.
“Kinetic,” a call for art show displayed in the center’s front gallery, features works of art that either move or appear to move — pieces that hang from the ceiling, light up with shifting patterns or even roll on their displays. There’s even a piece operated by a hand crank.
Featured in the show is art by a variety of local artists, including LuAnn Reynolds, Jan Wallace, Laura Faeo, Bryan Olds and others.
An opening reception will be held at the center on Friday, Jan. 3, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. featuring live music by the Kenai River Brass Quintet.
Starting this weekend, the center will begin taking submissions for their next show, “Fiber,” set to run Feb. 5 to Feb. 22. The center is calling for original art created within the last two years that uses natural or synthetic fibers.
In March, the center will host “Infusion,” a juried show in the front gallery, while the rear gallery will exhibit a two-woman show by Morgan Chamberlain and Daisy Jeffords. Both shows run March 5 to March 28.
The annual Kenai Peninsula Borough School District Student Show, “Visual Feast,” is set for April.
The Art Gaggle Group will put on a show “What We Do” in May, followed by “Wonder and Wander” by Theresa Ritter, Susan Watkins and Anna Widman in June. Also in June, the Kenai Peninsula Quilt Guild will fill the rear gallery with their annual quilt block challenge.
July will see the Kenai Potters Guild’s “Clay on Display” in the front gallery and a show by Susan Johnson in the back. August will feature work by Geoffrey Smith. September will see a return of the Harvest Art Auction, and October will feature both a solo show by Marco Mendoza in the front gallery and a Halloween call for art show in the rear.
The Kenai Art Center’s 2025 closes with the annual mural production in November and December.
