Did you know …
Fall is an excellent time of year to build a worm box for composting kitchen scraps using worms. You’ll need a tote or wood box, shredded waste paper, soil, kitchen scraps and worms. Our Cooperative Extension Service has simple instructions for building and maintaining a worm box and Kenai Feed has worms. A family of four generates 6 pounds of kitchen scraps a week. Composting with worms turns that waste into a useful product.
Information provided by ReGroup, a nonprofit educational group, formed in 1989 to develop public awareness of waste reduction, reuse, and recycling benefits on Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula. ReGroup meets September through May, every third Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at Hope Community Center on Princeton Avenue off Kalifornsky Beach Road. Find ReGroup on Facebook or contact at regroupkenaipeninsula@gmail.com.
