Did you know …
Feeding the 5,000 is Feedback U.K.’S flagship campaigning event, a delicious communal feast for 5,000 people made entirely out of food that would otherwise be wasted. Since 2009, Feedback U.K. has worked to combat the global food waste scandal at every level. Feedback works with governments, international institutions, businesses, NGOs, grassroots organizations and the public to change society’s attitude about wasting food. These efforts have helped elevate food waste from a non-issue several years ago to an issue that is now recognized as an urgent international priority.
In May 2016, Chef Jose Andres made paella for 5,000 people in Washington D.C. This event , organized by Feedback partnering with the USDA, the EPA, and the Natural Resources Defense Council, diverted 2,000 pounds of produce from the landfill. Food waste is a major component of solid waste in the U.S. and a major source of the greenhouse gas methane. Feeding the 5,000 will be at the L.A. Kitchen May 2, 2017.
