Poet’s Corner: A Shield of Protection

A Shield of Protection

By Bill Lowe, Sterling

Lord, watch over our police force; keep them out of harm’s way.

Put a shield of protection from evil around every officer, I pray.

Because every life matters, guide them through their every day.

Their job’s to ensure public safety, enforce laws, keep the peace,

investigate wrongdoing, arrest and detain so crime will decrease,

protect us and respond to emergency calls; still be flawless police.

I realize every cop on the beat may not be totally honest and true;

unfortunately they’re human like us, held to a much higher review,

so Lord help these cops strive for honor and integrity in all they do.

If I am ever detained for breaking rules I have earlier been taught,

don’t let me become angry nor show resentment for being caught,

but teach me a very crucial lesson for being in this unpleasant spot.

Please Lord, as they put on their badge, watch over them each one.

Behind each uniform’s someone’s mother, father, daughter or son;

give them that shield of protection ‘til their work is over and done.
