1 dies in plane crash near Whittier
Alaska State Troopers say a pilot has died after a small plane crashed near Whittier.
The Alaska Rescue Coordination Center reported an emergency beacon activation to troopers at approximately 11:30 a.m. Saturday, according to an online trooper dispatch. Weather in the area hampered the search, but helicopters from the Rescue Coordination Center and the Coast Guard found the plane crash site and “confirmed that the sole occupant was deceased,” according to the dispatch.
Troopers in helicopters and members of the Alaska mountain Rescue Group are working to try to reach the crash site, according to the dispatch. Troopers have not named the victim because they have not made positive identification yet.
