An inmate from Soldotna died yesterday at the Wildwood Correctional Complex in Kenai.
Alaska State Troopers are investigating after 30-year-old Walter Shade was pronounced dead by medics from the Nikiski Fire Department just before 1 p.m. Tuesday, according to an online troopers dispatch. Troopers responded to Wildwood along with the medics when a call came in from Wildwood around 12:20 p.m.
Foul play is not suspected in Shade’s death, troopers wrote in the dispatch, and his family in Soldotna have been notified. The State Medical Examiner’s Office has requested Shade’s body for an autopsy, according to the dispatch.
Shade’s death comes less than a week after a 40-year-old inmate died in a Fairbanks jail.
