A 4-year-old boy was reported to have drowned in the Ninilchik Harbor in Ninilchik on Wednesday, according to a dispatch from Alaska State Troopers.
Troopers say that the boy was playing in the harbor unsupervised and was not wearing a personal flotation device. His parents were unloading gear from a fishing vessel. When they realized he was not with his siblings, they began looking for him. He was discovered in the water in the harbor.
Troopers, Ninilchik Emergency Medical Services and Life Med responded. Resuscitative efforts were performed for about 45 minutes at the harbor. The child was taken to Central Peninsula Hospital, where resuscitative efforts were continued. He was declared deceased at 4:49 p.m.
Troopers say foul play is not suspected at this time.
