An Anchorage resident is dead after a Sunday vehicle collision on the Seward Highway that closed the highway for roughly six hours.
Alaska State Troopers said in a Monday dispatch that 75-year-old Dennis Wasuli was killed after his Chevrolet truck crossed the centerline traveling toward Anchorage, close to the “Welcome to Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula” sign. His vehicle struck a pickup truck that was towing an RV.
Wasuli, the sole occupant of his truck, was found dead at the scene, while the two occupants of the other vehicle were transported to an Anchorage hospital with “non-life-threatening injuries.”
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, according to troopers, though there are “no indications” alcohol was a factor.
Updates posted to Alaska 511 say the Seward Highway was closed at around 3 p.m. due to the collision. It wasn’t reopened until shortly before 9 p.m.
