A teenage girl was killed in an ATV accident outside of Ninilchik over the weekend, according to a dispatch report from the Alaska State Troopers.
A 15-year-old girl was driving an ATV with a 14-year-old female passenger last Saturday when the ATV lost control and rolled, troopers reported. The younger passenger “succumbed to her injuries despite attempted lifesaving measures,” according to the dispatch.
The 15-year-old was transported to a Soldotna area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The 14-year-old passenger’s next of kin have been notified, and her body is being sent to the State Medical Examiner for autopsy.
Neither the driver nor the passenger was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, according to the dispatch. Troopers want to remind Alaskans to wear a helmet while operating an ATV, UTV, side-by-side or dirt bike.
