Baby seals abandoned, transported to SeaLife Center

Both the pups were in relatively stable condition.

Two seal pups were admitted to the Alaska SeaLife Center in Seward in the span of less than a week, according to a press release from the center.

The first — a dark-furred female — was admitted on June 2 after the Alaska Department of Fish and Game found her near the Little Susitna River.

According to the press release, it seemed the pup was abandoned shortly after birth since her umbilical cord was still fleshy.

On June 6 the center received another female pup with light-colored fur, who was found alone on a beach in Anchor Point after she had been spotted a day prior. When officials realized the pup hadn’t moved and no other seals were in the area, they transported her to the SeaLife Center with approval from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Both the pups were in relatively stable condition, the release stated, and they’re both undergoing treatment and further health examinations.
