The Bing’s Landing boat launch near Sterling will be closed for most of April while the Alaska State Parks’ design and construction crews work to place the existing ramp. The Alaska Department of Natural Resources said in a Wednesday release that the launch will be closed from April 4 through April 22, during which time the existing ramp will be replaced with planks that extend further into the water.
According to the release, the improvements are made possible through funds from the Federal Aid in Sport Fish Restoration Act and from the State of Alaska. Bing’s Landing is located within the Kenai River Special Management Area.
State maintenance crews worked at the end of last year to clear hazardous trees and to clear roads in the area as part of an ongoing response to the latest spruce bark beetle outbreak.
Bing’s Landing Campground and Day Use Area covers about 126 acres and has 36 campsites, according to the Alaska Department of Natural Resources. The area is accessed by turning from the Sterling Highway to Bings Landing Road.
