The Board of Education approved a transfer for the 2014-2015 fourth quarter budget during Monday’s meeting to cover the costs of electricity use at six local schools totaling nearly $322,800.
Skyview Middle School’s budget increased by more than $186,000, five times as much as the second closest increase, which was Kenai Central High School’s for just less than $36,500.
Board member Dan Castimore was concerned about the dramatic differential between school costs.
Assistant Superintendent Dave Jones said Kenai Peninsula Borough School District administration is looking into why Skyview’s increase was so high, which he said might have been due to an error in the original budget.
The board has to approve all transfers exceeding $50,000 according to board policy.
