The Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly will look at extending the borough’s emergency declaration Mayor Charlie Pierce issued March 16.
A resolution slated to be heard at Tuesday’s assembly meeting extends the emergency declaration for an additional 90 days. This will be the second time the assembly has extended the declaration. The extension would be set to end Sept. 19.
The declaration allows the borough to request assistance from the state and federal government as needed for the ongoing response and recovery from COVID-19 and to provide individual assistance for affected businesses and individuals, as well as technical expertise and guidance.
The resolution said the COVID-19 response and recovery efforts are expected to “require ongoing use of borough resources.”
