Due to several recent Dumpster fires, the Kenai Peninsula Borough’s Solid Waste Department is reminding Peninsula residents when disposing of ash and burn barrel debris to make sure the waste is completely extinguished before bringing it to any solid waste transfer locations or landfills.
Ash that appears cold can actually be concealing hot embers, which can start fires when thrown into waste Dumpsters. Please assure that all ash and other materials being disposed of are completely extinguished.
