The open burn restriction throughout the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge has been lifted.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service canceled the restriction after rain and cooler weather conditions dampened the fire danger, according to a Tuesday media release.
Though the rain has dampened fire danger, it has not put out all of the fires currently burning, according to the release. The deeper layers of ground fuel are dry and will need significant rain to extinguish the current fires.
