JUNEAU (AP) — House Speaker Mike Chenault sees his relationship with Gov. Bill Walker going nowhere but up.
He told reporters the relationship probably hit the lowest point it could.
Walker reacted strongly to a bill from Chenault that would limit participation of a state-backed corporation in an alternate gas project proposed by Walker. Walker called it “the most un-Alaskan thing” he’s seen put together.
Chenault said House leadership and Walker are trying to mend fences. Leadership met with Walker Wednesday. Chenault had breakfast with him at the governor’s mansion Thursday.
While they may not always agree, Chenault said that doesn’t mean they can’t continue trying to work together.
Walker said he looks forward to working with all legislators. He said while there may be disagreements they must do what’s best for Alaskans.
