Crews working the two active fires in Cooper Landing inched closer to containing the blazes Monday.
The United States Forest Service cited good weather as a contributing factor.
The Stetson Creek fire, estimated at 212 acres, was 50 percent contained, and the Juneau Lake fire, estimated at 573 acres, was 30 percent contained, by Monday evening.
Crews from Montana and a local squad from the Chugach National Forest continued to protect “high values along the Sterling Highway,” from the Stetson Creek Fire, according to a Monday press release by the United States Forest Service.
The Lolo Type 2 crew worked to protect the cabins along Juneau Lake, said Public Information Officer Jean Goad. The main focus for firefighters was securing the perimeters of the fires, she said.
Monday’s personnel included 102 firefighters assisted by one helicopter.
