DHSS: 178 new COVID-19 cases

The state also reported 11 new hospitalizations and two new deaths among Alaska residents.

The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services announced 178 new COVID-19 cases in Alaska on Tuesday, including three on the Kenai Peninsula. Affected peninsula communities include Kenai with one case, Other South with one case and Seward with one case.

The new cases bring Alaska’s statewide case total to 61,693, including 59,165 reported among residents and 2,528 reported among nonresidents.

On Tuesday, the Kenai Peninsula Borough had an average daily 14-day case rate of 5.7 cases per 100,000 people. The borough is considered to be at intermediate risk level.

Also on Tuesday, the state reported 63 cases in Anchorage, 38 in Wasilla, 13 in Bethel Census Area, 10 in Fairbanks, nine in Eagle River, nine in Palmer, six in Mat-Su Borough, four in Delta Junction, three in Copper River Census Area, three in Fairbanks North Star Borough, three in Ketchikan, two in Big Lake and one each in Bethel, Chugiak, Haines, Healy, Kodiak, Utqiagvik and Willow.

Five new nonresident cases were also reported, including three in North Slope Borough and one in Anchorage. Another has a location still under investigation.

The state also reported 11 new hospitalizations and two new deaths among Alaska residents, bringing statewide totals to date to 1,329 and 308, respectively. As of Tuesday, there were 43 people hospitalized due to COVID-19 in Alaska, including three who were considered persons under investigation for the disease. Three of the patients were on ventilators.
