Mark Dixson is no longer Soldotna’s city manager.
The Soldotna City Council accepted Dixson’s resignation in an executive session held at the council’s meeting Wednesday. Immediately, they voted to have Director of Economic Development and Planning Stephanie Queen serve as acting city manager until the hiring process has been completed, said Soldotna Mayor Pete Sprague.
“There will be some challenges ahead but I have utmost confidence we’ll get through it,” he said.
Sprague declined to give details about the reason for Dixson’s resignation. The executive session lasted about an hour and a half and no members of the public were in attendance when they came back out, he said.
Soldotna City Council Vice Mayor Linda Murphy declined to comment, saying the council had decided all communications should go through the mayor.
Dixson took the job with Soldotna in 2012. Prior to that, he worked as the general services director for the Kenai Peninsula Borough for about a year after moving from New York to Soldotna. In New York, he worked as the county attorney in Tioga County, New York, and practiced as a private attorney before that.
