Winter hit the Central Kenai Peninsula a little early when flakes began to fall Tuesday evening, causing some Homer Electric Association members to lose power.
An outage “from Anchor Point south along the Sterling Highway to the Old Sterling Highway” affected 322 customers Tuesday evening, Director of Member Relations Joe Gallagher wrote in an email. The outage was caused by heavy snow on the power lines, said HEA Communications Specialist Melissa Carlin.
“For the Anchor Point outage, the time of restoration… was 11:42 p.m.,” Carlin said. “Most of the members in Anchor Point were restored with the exception of 62 members, and those were restored at 12:40 a.m.”
About 1,200 Nikiski residents also lost power earlier that afternoon due to a fallen tree and downed power lines, Carlin said.
“Most were restored at 5:40 p.m., with the exception of about 196 member out on Island Lake Rd., and they were restored at 8:49 p.m.,” Carlin said.
