A partial stick of unexploded dynamite was found on the Sterling Highway by a construction crew on Tuesday, according to a dispatch from the Alaska State Troopers.
The troopers responded to the scene, near Mile 58 of the highway, and confirmed the suspicious ordnance, according to a statement from the troopers. Trained explosive professionals with the FBI responded to the area and performed a “controlled detonation.”
There was a temporary road closure at the site of the incident during the detonation.
The dynamite was likely left from previous road construction in the area, the troopers said in a statement.
Alaskans are encouraged to contact the troopers or other law enforcement if they find unexploded dynamite or other explosives.
