The State Department of Fish and Game is looking for harvest reports from Kenai Peninsula moose hunters.
According to a release by the department last week, moose hunters “are still required to report harvested moose” despite a regulation change passed by the Board of Game earlier this year that removed the sealing requirements for moose antlers on the peninsula.
Hunters can report their results by following instructions on their harvest tickets, registration permits and draw permits — most reporting can be done online at adfg.alaska.gov or in person at a department office.
“When sealing was required, moose harvest was able to be tabulated quickly as hunters were required to present antlers at ADF&G offices. Moving forward, Kenai Peninsula staff will rely on hunt reports turned in by hunters to determine the number of moose harvested annually in Units 7 & 15,” Kenai Peninsula Area Biologist Nick Fowler says in the release. “This will increase the amount of time from the close of seasons on the Kenai to when harvest metrics are able to be shared with the public.”
