HEA workers plan to inject the cables with silicone to fill any cracks caused by insulation deterioration.

Homer Electric Association is planning to repair some of its underground cables in Soldotna this summer, according to a press release from the company.

HEA workers plan to inject the cables with silicone to fill any cracks caused by insulation deterioration. The release said these cracks can also lead to unplanned power outages.

There was a large outage on May 12, around 3:40 p.m. that affected around 3,762 HEA members on Kalifornsky Beach Road, according to a release from the company.

The company has already started cable injection work on K-Beach Road from Bridge Access Road to Soldotna. The company stated in the release that it will alert neighborhoods that may be affected by the project in advance.
