As of Saturday night, neither incumbent Rep. Sarah Vance or challenger Brent Johnson had claimed 50% of votes in the race for House District 6.
The State Division of Elections on Friday published the first updated numbers — roughly 1,200 votes — for the district since the night of the election. A second update, on Saturday around 4:30, put in roughly 600 more.
Vance holds 5,195 votes, 46.74% — slightly less than the 47.69% she held the morning after the election. Brent Johnson added roughly half a percent over his election night totals, now claiming 4,851 ballots and 43.65%.
Dawson Slaughter holds 1,042 votes, good for 9.38%. When ranked choice voting is tabulated next week, the second-choice votes of the people who cast their ballots for Slaughter will be attributed to Vance and Johnson, pushing one of the two over the 50% margin.
Friday and Saturday’s updates comes after all the other Kenai Peninsula districts were updated with a large batch of results published on Tuesday. Division officials said that was because of a delay in verifying voter history for early voters in the district. Tuesday’s update included remaining early ballots cast between Nov. 1 and Election Day.
