State Troopers rescued two stranded Soldotna hikers on the Skilak River Delta Monday. Donald Joachim, 41, and Benjamin Nabinger, 34, hiked across the Harding Icefield to the delta, but recent thawing on the Skilak River prevented them from crossing, according to an online trooper dispatch. The two hikers were reportedly uninjured and had adequate food, water and shelter. A rescue helicopter recovered the hikers around 2:30 p.m. and the two were taken to the Soldotna airport.
