Lydia Jacoby, the 17-year-old Seward swimmer who has already brought home gold at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, earned a silver medal Saturday night in the women’s 4×100-meter medley relay.
The four-member relay team finished with a total time of 3 minutes, 51.73 seconds, just behind Australia’s gold medal time of 3:51.60.
Canada earned the bronze with a time of 3:52.60.
Jacoby, who swam second, finished her leg in 1:05.03. Regan Smith kicked off the relay. Jacoby was followed by Torri Huske and Abbey Weitzeil.
Jacoby’s silver medal performance follows a Friday night mixed 4×100-meter medley relay race where the swimmer’s goggles slipped down over her mouth and remained there for the rest of her swim.
Team USA finished in fifth place in the mixed medley event, with Great Britain winning gold, China silver and Australia bronze.
Jacoby took home a gold medal for Team USA in the women’s 100-meter breaststroke at the Tokyo Games on Monday night. Jacoby finished with a time of 1:04.95 seconds, beating both the Olympic record holder from South Africa, Tatjana Schoenmaker (1:05.22), and the world record holder and two-time Olympic gold medalist from Team USA, Lilly King (1:05.54).
