The Alaska Department of Fish and Game has issued an emergency order restricting fishing hours in the Kasilof personal-use setnet fishery.
Under the emergency order issued Thursday, fishing hours are reduced to 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. The order is effective when the fishery opens Sunday, and runs through the close of the fishery on June 24.
According to a Fish and Game press release announcing the restrictions, the intent of the emergency order is to reduce the harvest of Kasilof River king salmon in the personal-use setnet fishery by reducing fishing time from 17 hours to 9 hours per day. Other conservation measures have been taken for king salmon in the Kasilof River sport fishery.
The Kasilof River personal-use dipnet fishery will open on June 25, and is open 24 hours per day. However, king salmon may not be retained in the Kasilof dipnet fishery.
