The City of Kenai removed a boil water advisory for people using the public water system after bacteria test results came back clear on Thursday afternoon.
The boil water advisory was issued Wednesday morning after high winds caused a power outage at the city’s water treatment plant. A backup generator kicked in but shut down and is now being troubleshooted by the city.
According to the city, Water Department staff flushed the distribution system between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Wednesday and sampling was conducted by Taurianen Engineering from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Results, which take 24 hours to return, came back clear on Thursday and the boil water advisory was removed effective 2 p.m.
