The City of Kenai has severed its contract with an out-of-state marketing firm weeks after council members expressed skepticism about the firm’s performance.
Kenai City Council members during their Wednesday night meeting postponed indefinitely a contract renewal with Divining Point, LLC, with which it signed a three-year deal in 2019 to provide marketing services. The city had previously extended its contract for one year in 2022.
Council members have previously discussed shifting city marketing to the Kenai Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center, which came under new management earlier this year.
Kenai City Manager Terry Eubank told council members Wednesday that Divining Point told the city in late May that they were “not interested” in extending the contract again. Eubank said he’s talked with Kenai Chamber Executive Director Samantha Springer about assuming those responsibilities, including maintaining the city’s marketing websites.
“I feel confident that the chamber is going to have the ability and the capacity to assist us with the marketing,” Eubank said.
Wednesday’s city council meeting can be streamed on the City of Kenai’s YouTube channel.
