A new Career Pathways course geared toward non-native English speakers is being offered at the Kenai River Campus Learning Center at Kenai Peninsula College (KPC) starting Tuesday.
The English Language Acquisition (ELA) course is a free, non-credit course for those who speak English as a second language and who are hoping to expand on their language skills in order to further their educations or careers, according to Bridget Clark, an ESL instructor at KPC.
A range of courses will be available, with evening courses being offered daily Monday through Thursday from 5:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. Students may register at anytime throughout the spring semester.
“The English as a Second Language program is designed to meet the needs of adults wishing to become more fluent English speakers. Students may take classes in reading, academic vocabulary, citizenship and US history, and current events to further enhance their English proficiency to pursue college and career opportunities,” Clark said.
