A man has been safely returned to the ground after the Kenai Fire Department and Kenai Police found him stuck in a cellular tower on Redoubt Avenue Monday morning.
The man called 911 from the tower at approximately 8:27 a.m., said Kenai Fire Chief Jeff Tucker.
“We had a subject who climbed up the tower this morning and got up there and couldn’t get himself down, and we went over there and helped him down,” Tucker said.
The man, who Tucker said did not give Kenai Fire personnel a reason for climbing up the tower, was about 130 feet up, higher than the fire department’s equipment could reach, Tucker said. The department sent two men up to him with ropes, who got him down by just before 10 a.m.
Firefighters took the man, whose name is not being released by Kenai Fire or Kenai Police, to Central Peninsula Hospital to be checked for hypothermia, Tucker said. Two Kenai Police officers assisted in the rescue, he said.
Investigation of the incident is continuing.
