A Nikiski man was found dead in a Sterling residence on Sunday after accidentally shooting himself while playing Russian Roulette.
According to an Alaska State Trooper dispatch, troopers responded to the residence at approximately 4:39 p.m. after a Sterling resident placed a call that John Rutherford, 31, was deceased in the house.
Upon arrival, troopers found that Rutherford had been playing Russian Roulette “on the couch in front of his fiancé” when he accidentally shot himself. The dispatch states troopers failed to find anything suspicious at the residence, and that the body will be sent to the State Medical Examiner for investigation.
Alaska State Trooper Public Information Officer Beth Ipsen said investigation is ongoing.
