A Nikiski man was indicted for first-degree vehicle theft last week after allegedly taking a dirt bike from his neighbor and spray painting it orange.
David W. Pallas, 37, was arrested after a neighbor staying near Pallas’ residence reported seeing him spray paint the bike — which had been reported stolen in May — in the woods, according to an Alaska State Trooper affidavit filed with the court.
When interviewed, Pallas said he had found the bike down the road and planned to give it back, but that he had left to go camping before notifying the owner, according to the affidavit. He had no answer as to why he painted the bike, according to the affidavit.
Pallas was indicted July 11 on one count of first-degree vehicle theft and one count of second-degree tampering with physical evidence
