NINILCHIK, Alaska (AP) — An 81-year-old Ninilchik man was rescued after apparently spending a night in frigid temperatures near his home.
Alaska State Troopers say Richard Hunt was treated for severe hypothermia. Troopers in Anchor Point on Thursday morning took a call that Hunt was missing from his home. Friends the night before had checked on him and told troopers he appeared to be having a medical problem. He was not found Thursday in a search of his home and outbuildings. As troopers began to organize a larger search, an officer found Hunt behind his home at the bottom of a 150-foot hill.
Troopers and emergency medical responders carried Hunt up the hill and he was taken to a hospital.
Ninilchik is 38 miles southwest of Kenai on the Kenai Peninsula.
