A plane performed an emergency landing Wednesday on the Sterling Highway near Ninilchik and then flipped, but both occupants walked away unharmed, according to a dispatch from Alaska State Troopers.
The dispatch says the crash was reported around 4:30 p.m., and troopers responded to the downed aircraft near Mile 138 of the Sterling Highway, just south of Ninilchik.
The dispatch said the plane was a single engine, a 1946 Aeronca, being flown by Brian Bilodeau, a 26-year-old Kenai resident. According to the dispatch, Bilodeau made an emergency landing on the highway as a result of “engine trouble,” but after landing he struck the guardrail and flipped the plane into the ditch.
Despite the crash, both occupants were uninjured, the dispatch says.
