Public safety briefs for Jan. 29, 2020

On Jan. 18 about 9:20 a.m., Alaska State Troopers responded to a report of a 2008 Cadillac CTS in the ditch at Mile 55 of the Sterling Highway. The vehicle was partially in water. Troopers confirmed that the vehicle was unoccupied. The driver could not be located. At about 2:00 p.m., troopers contacted the vehicle owner, Jacob Brown, 37, of Soldotna, who had returned to the vehicle to retrieve items. Brown, whose driver’s license is revoked, stated he was a passenger, and an acquaintance had been the driver. The individual Brown identified as the driver does not have a valid license. Brown was issued a criminal citation for permitting an unauthorized person to drive.

On Jan. 24 at 4:47 a.m., Alaska State Troopers responded to the report of a female passed-out behind the wheel of a vehicle stuck in the ditch in the Kalifornsky area. Mary Pratt, 59, of Kenai was contacted and found to be impaired and in possession of controlled substances. Pratt was arrested and taken to Wildwood Pretrial Facility on the charges of driving under the influence, third-degree misconduct involving controlled substances, and two counts of fifth-degree misconduct involving controlled substances.

On Jan. 23 at 11:33 p.m., Alaska State Troopers responded to a Soldotna gas station on the report of a suspicious vehicle. Tamara Walker, 55, of Soldotna, was contacted during the investigation and determined to be in violation of her conditions of release in a pending misdemeanor court case. After investigation, Walker was arrested for violating conditions of release and taken to Wildwood Pretrial.

On Jan. 24, Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Soldotna Post, while on patrol on Holt Lamplight road between Two Junes Road and De Busk Road, found a moose carcass on the roadside. Anyone with information is requested to contact the Soldotna Wildlife Troopers at 907-262-4573.

On Jan. 18 at 7:42 p.m., Alaska State Troopers conducted a traffic stop on a red Ford Focus on Herman Leirer Road in Seward. Investigation revealed that Jessie Johnson, 34, of Seward, was driving while his license was revoked. Johnson was issued a misdemeanor citation for driving while license revoked.

On Dec. 28 at 3:26 p.m., Alaska State Troopers received a report from Spring Creek Correctional Center that Charity Lega, 19, of Anchorage, was found attempting to bring a controlled substance into the prison. Investigation resulted in Lega’s arrest for first-degree promoting contraband and fourth-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance. She was taken to the Seward Community Jail.

On Dec. 21 at 10:18 p.m., Alaska State Troopers conducted a traffic stop on an Oldsmobile Bravada on the Seward Highway near Bear Lake Road. Investigation revealed that Michelle Spiers, 52, of Seward, was driving while her license was revoked. She was issued a misdemeanor citation for driving while license revoked, and the vehicle was released to a licensed driver.

On Jan. 21 at 1:28 p.m., Alaska State Troopers received a report from Sterling Head Start, that their snow blower was missing from their shed. The red Toro snow blower was last seen spring of 2019. The investigation is ongoing.

On Jan. 26 at 2:56 p.m., the Soldotna Alaska State Troopers K-9 Team responded to Kalgin Road and Cork Line Drive in Kenai to a report of a vehicle collision involving two vehicles. Investigation revealed that Austin J. Linn, 24, of Kenai, was operating a silver 2005 Dodge Caravan, driving down Cork Line. Linn went through the intersection at Cork Line and Kalgin and failed to stop to the right of way traffic because there are no stop signs present. Linn struck a grey 2011 GMC Sierra traveling down Kalgin, driven by Joseph O. Moyer II, 65, of Kenai. Seat belts were worn, and no injuries were reported by either party. Both vehicles had disabling damage and were towed. The Department of Transportation was notified.

On Jan. 26 at 2:51 p.m., Alaska State Troopers responded to a residence on Cedarwood Avenue in Sterling for a report of a burglary. Investigation revealed that unknown person(s) entered the residence by force and stole items. Anyone with information regarding this investigation is encouraged to call the Alaska State Troopers at (907)262-4453 or Crime Stoppers at (907)283-8477. This investigation is continuing.

On Jan. 27 at 10:34 p.m., the Soldotna Alaska State Troopers K-9 Team conducted a traffic stop for an equipment violation on a black 1990 Chevrolet Silverado at Turnbuckle Terrace Road and Suthard Boulevard in Soldotna. A check in the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN) revealed that driver Katelund M. White, 23, of Soldotna, had a suspended operator’s license for failing to maintain motor vehicle liability insurance. White also had a separate Department of Motor Vehicle points system suspension and an outstanding $500 warrant for her arrest for failing to appear in court on a misconduct involving controlled substances charge. White was arrested for driving while license suspended and the outstanding warrant and taken to Wildwood Pretrial Facility.

On Jan. 27 at 12:23 a.m., Kenai police conducted a traffic stop at South Willow Street and the Kenai Spur Highway. James D. Hudson, Jr., 61, of Nikiski, was arrested for driving under the influence and taken to Wildwood Pretrial Facility.

On Jan. 27 at 3:35 a.m., Kenai police responded to a local business on the Kenai Spur Highway. Daniel W. Seeley, 36, of Kenai, was arrested for driving under the influence and fourth-degree misconduct involving weapons and taken to Wildwood Pretrial.

On Jan. 26 at about 3:40 p.m., Kenai police received a REDDI (Report Every Dangerous Driver Immediately) report. Klayton N. Justice, 22, of Kenai, was arrested for driving under the influence, two counts of fourth-degree assault (domestic violence), and petition to revoke probation and was taken to Wildwood Pretrial.

On Jan. 26 at 9:56 p.m., Kenai police responded to the Kenai Airport for a trespassing issue. Philip J. Fabinski, 62, of Kenai, was arrested for second-degree criminal trespass and violating conditions of release and was taken to Wildwood Pretrial.

On Jan. 25 at 5:01 a.m., Kenai police responded to a residence near Peninsula Avenue and Broad Street. After investigation, Diana P. Westover, 40, of Kenai, was arrested for second-degree trespass and violating conditions of release and was taken to Wildwood Pretrial.

On Jan. 25 at about 5:20 p.m., Kenai police responded to the area of North Lupine Drive and Phillips Drive. After investigation, Brittney N. Sparhawk, 31, of Kenai, was arrested for driving under the influence and taken to Wildwood Pretrial.

On Jan. 25 at 9:39 p.m., Kenai police conducted a traffic stop near Mile 9 of the Kenai Spur Highway. After investigation, Jason L. Cook, 46, of Kenai, was arrested for driving under the influence and taken to Wildwood Pretrial.

On Jan. 23 at 12:31 p.m., Kenai police responded to the area of Mile 5 of the Kenai Spur Highway. After investigation, Michael W. Muller, 37, of Soldotna was arrested for tampering with physical evidence and violating conditions of release and was taken to Wildwood Pretrial.

On Jan. 22 at 12:13 p.m., Kenai police made contact with a wanted subject at Wildwood Pretrial Facility. Justin J.H. Herrmann, 28, of Kenai, was remanded on an outstanding warrant.
