Quake near Redoubt shakes peninsula

The quake was centered 41 miles southwest of Kenai.

The central Kenai Peninsula felt a jolt Thursday night when a 5.1 magnitude earthquake struck the western side of Cook Inlet.

The quake, which took place at roughly 8:18 p.m., was centered approximately 17 miles southeast of the Redoubt volcano, or about 41 miles southwest of Kenai, at a depth of 72.8 miles, according to an Alaska Earthquake Center preliminary report.

The center reported that the event was also felt in Anchorage and the Matanuska-Susitna area.
