An angler visiting from Florida got lucky in Cook Inlet and hauled in a 341-pound halibut last week, one of the biggest reported in the state so far in 2016.
George McMahon III, a resident of Lakeland, Florida, pulled the fish onto the Deep Creek Fishing Club’s “Megalodon” vessel June 14.
Deep Creek Fishing Club, a full-service lodge and fishing guide business based in Ninilchik, provides both freshwater and saltwater fishing trips to visitors and last year reported an angler catching a 403-pound halibut.
The “Megalodon,” piloted by Steve Moe — also known as “Captain Crusty” — and mate Christopher Gallup, is one of the Deep Creek Fishing Club’s regular vessels.
