The positions for Board of Education President, Vice President, Clerk and Treasurer were settled at Monday’s meeting.
Joe Arness was re-elected as board president after a quick election against Dan Castimore and Tim Navarre, each of whom were nominated at the start of the session. To secure the position, a majority is required. Arness received six votes out of nine.
Bill Holt was uncontested for the role of Vice President, as was Penny Vadla for Clerk and Tim Navarre for Treasurer.
Before the voting took place, board members Navarre and Marty Anderson were sworn in after running uncontested in the regular municipal election, which took place on Oct.6 for the Kenai and Sterling and Funny River districts. Liz Downing, who ran uncontested for the Homer seat, was not in attendance at Monday’s meeting, but joined via phone. She was not sworn with Navarre and Anderson at the start of the session.
Assistant Superintendent of Instruction Dave Jones said there were concerns about Downing voting for the four positions, so she was sworn in over the phone.
