The City of Seward will spend around $362,000 on materials and equipment for its Electric Department, after unanimous approval of the move by the Seward City Council last week.
During the council’s Monday, June 10 meeting, a pair of resolutions were included and passed within the consent agenda that authorize City Manager Kat Sorensen to enter two purchase agreements for materials “to meet the needs of the utility’s consumers, both for new services and maintenance of existing services.”
The first resolution describes a purchase from Anixter for around $223,692 in a variety of materials — including fuse links, connectors, bolts and PVC couplings. The resolution includes an additional 10% in money for “contingency,” so allocating $246,000 to the purchase.
The second resolution describes a purchase of electrical transformers from General Pacific for $128,409, similarly with an extra 10% for contingency, allocating $141,000.
Funding for the two purchases was mostly included in the current fiscal year’s budget, though around $87,000 was appropriated from the department’s unassigned fund account for the purchase.
Neither resolution saw any discussion during the meeting.
