A popular driving loop that connects several trails, campgrounds and boat launches on the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge to travelers on the Sterling Highway remains closed.
The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities on Friday announced that Skilak Lake Road is still closed as maintenance crews work to fill in ruts and modify the road to allow rain to run off according to its Facebook page.
The gravel road was closed Thursday by the DOT as it was impassable due to wet and saturated surfaces.
Due to ongoing rain, the road remains saturated and DOT officials estimate it will be closed for another week, according to the Facebook post.
Updates on the closure can be found at 511.alaska.gov or facebook.com/AlaskaDOTPF.
