Firefighters are still working to suppress a blaze on Porcupine Island in Kenai Lake.
North of Seward and close to Cooper Landing, the fire burned about two acres by the time the U.S. Forest Service sent out a notice Monday. The fire was holding steady at three acres on Wednesday, according to a second release.
Porcupine Island is part of the Chugach National Forest, which is federally managed. A helicopter and 14 crew members were sent to fight the fire Monday and by Wednesday had a saw line and a hose around the fire.
“Fire personnel will continue mopping up the edges of the fire,” the release states.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, according to the Forest Service.
