During the regular election this fall, Soldotna residents will vote on how their municipal officials and candidates will be required to disclose personal finances.
At their Wednesday meeting, The Soldotna City Council unanimously voted in favor of putting a proposition on the ballot that would exempt municipal officials and elected or appointed candidates from the requirements of the Alaska Public Official Financial Disclosure law. The city could then adopt local financial disclosure requirements.
Soldotna City Manager Mark Dixson said the proposition would limit the public access of the documentation to locals, who would have to physically come into the Soldotna City Hall to receive the documents.
The council also voted unanimously in favor to authorize the city manager to execute a contract with Blazy Construction for just under $3.4 million in the construction of the Kalifornsky Beach water reservoir.
Dixson said Blazy Construction was the lowest of five bids for the contract.
Council member Pete Sprague said the amount was hard to swallow, but equally as hard to turn down for such an important project.
