Readers borrowing books from Soldotna’s Joyce K. Carver Library will soon be bypassing traditional, by-hand checkout methods.
The city council approved the purchased of Radio Identification Software Licensing and Equipment, or electronic materials for self-checkout, Wednesday evening. The purchase with Tech Logic Corporation, which is based out of Minnesota, will cost $22,665, according to the resolution.
The purchase will include, software tags, antennas, software licensing and self-checkout hardware, according to a memo from City Librarian Rachel Nash.
The city received three responses during a bid request for the purchase and went with the lowest bidder, according to the memo.
The money was originally allocated in the city’s capital budget in July, and was appropriated at $40,000, according to a previous Clarion article.
The independent system is aimed at “improving patron confidentiality,” and “decreases the potential for repetitive stress injuries in the staff members,” Nash said.
