A Soldotna man died after his ATV overturned in the Delta River on Wednesday.
Alaska State Troopers got a report about the accident just before 3 p.m. Wednesday, troopers wrote in an online dispatch. The body of Soldotna resident Daniel Mahan, 74, was recovered from the river. Troopers responded along with the Alaska Wildlife Troopers and one of their helicopters, the Fort Greely Fire Department, the Rural Deltana Fire Department and the U.S. Army Black Rapids Training Center, according to the dispatch.
“The channels of the river were too deep for ground units to reach the overturned Argo,” troopers wrote.
The Alaska Rescue Coordination Center dispatched a Black Hawk helicopter that could send down a basket, and medics were able to reach Mahan around 5:30 p.m., according to the dispatch.
