Soldotna’s chief of police, Gene Meek, resigned effective immediately on Friday, City Manager Janette Bower confirmed Monday.
The move had not been announced or acknowledged by either the City of Soldotna or Soldotna Police Department’s Facebook pages as of Monday evening, but KSRM Radio Group reported the resignation Monday around 5 p.m.
Meek’s resignation was effective immediately, and Bower said she accepted it, but did not respond to questions about any cited reasoning.
“We wish Gene the best in his future endeavors and thank him for his service,” she wrote.
The department’s website listed Lt. Stace Escott as “acting chief” on Monday evening. Meek did not respond to request for comment by publication. The city responded to a records request Tuesday and said they had not been provided a resignation letter from Meek.
This story was edited Tuesday to add details about a records request for Meek’s resignation letter.
