Soldotna vice mayor elected head of Alaska Municipal League

Soldotna Vice Mayor Lisa Parker was elected president of the Alaska Municipal League during their Annual Local Government Conference in Anchorage on Friday.

A press release from the City of Soldotna on Monday describes the league as a nonprofit and nonpartisan organization representing 165 of Alaska’s cities, boroughs and municipalities to foster cooperation and create space for officials to exchange ideas. The group also advocates on behalf of those groups to the Alaska Legislature.

Parker’s leadership among the group, Soldotna’s release says, will give Soldotna a “stronger voice in shaping policies that impact all Alaskans.”

Parker on Monday said she was honored to work with fellow government officials on behalf of Soldotna and other Alaska communities.

“While we vary in size and services we provide to our communities, there is one thing we all share — taking care of the needs of our local residents,” she said.
