Sprinklers beat firefighters to the punch when they put out a small fire inside a Soldotna store Thursday morning.
Central Emergency Services got a call about a small fire in Inkwell’s Bookshop on the Sterling Highway around 9:30 a.m. Thursday. Upon arriving, they found a small fire inside the store that had triggered the sprinklers, which had put the fire out, said CES Deputy Chief Dan Grimes.
At this point, the water damage from the sprinklers looks more extensive than the fire damage, but CES hadn’t determined the full extent of the damage, he said.
With the fire out, the CES fire marshal is conducting an investigation into the cause, Grimes said.
