ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — A state-owned corporation is under fire after it was discovered the company sponsored a golf tournament that saw employees on the links during business hours.
The Alaska Dispatch News reports (http://bit.ly/1GJA1yK ) that Rep. Lynn Gattis, of Wasilla, criticized the Alaska Housing Finance Corp. for allowing 20 of its employees to play in the tournament Thursday amid projected multibillion-dollar deficits.
AHFC spokeswoman Stacy Schubert says all those employees paid their own entry fees and took personal leave to participate and that no federal or state funds were used for the event.
Gov. Bill Walker says he agreed with Gattis that during the state’s financial duress it is important to be prudent with government spending. He says he was pleased to hear AHFC did not use state money for the event.
