Two people died and another was injured in a car wreck between Sterling and Cooper Landing on Saturday evening, according to a dispatch from the Alaska State Troopers.
The dispatch reported that near Milepost 64 of the Sterling Highway, a non-commercial van crossed the centerline into oncoming traffic, side-swiping a vehicle and then colliding with another head-on.
The driver of the van, Fedos Martushoff, 55, of Sterling, as well as the driver of the vehicle hit head-on, Matthew Shull, 26, of Seward, were both pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
A passenger in Shull’s car was medevaced to a hospital in the Anchorage area and is expected to live, according to the troopers.
The dispatch stated that the cause of the collision is still under investigation.
